Recipe: Maple Pear Crunch

Ingredients:
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1 Tbs. lemon juice
  • 4 large ripefirm pear, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 3 Tbs. yellow cornmeal
  • 3 Tbs. brown sugar, packed
  • 1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces

Cooking Directions:
Preheat oven to 375° F. Combine maple syrup and lemon juice in a heavy non-reactive saucepan. Cook over low heat 5 minutes, or until very hot. Remove from heat. Stir in pear slices and transfer to a buttered baking dish. Set aside. Combine next 4 ingredients in a food processor or bowl. Add butter and cut into dry ingredients until mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle topping over pears and bake 40 minutes, or until bubbly and golden.
