PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – Palm Springs was like a movie set. It was so perfect, no wonder people are happy to move there. We set up the bus on Canyon Drive, the main drag.
As the sun set and the air cooled, sidewalks filled with passing people, many of whom stopped and asked what we were doing and what we were trying to accomplish. They were also happy to tell me their stories. A woman stopped with her children. She said one of the signs on the side of the bus had caught her attention: “Seniors are America’s most untapped resource.” She recently lost her mother and she talked lovingly of how it had been a privilege to care for her. She also talked about how hard it had been. Caring for her mother also gave her children the chance to spend time with their grandmother and hear her stories. Be first to comment this article |

‘ . . . there has been so much genuine sharing on this trip.’
I’m so glad to have you along on our trip, and I thought you'd like to know what this bus is all about. Let me describe her to you.
A converted 1966 Greyhound bus, she’s a 35-foot beauty, all polished stainless steel on the outside and comfortable camper/business office on the inside. She travels well and has great signs on the exterior that announce the tour. All passersby stare at her. I want to pet her like a big puppy. Comments (11) |

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Before you go on the air at a television station, they make you wait in a room called the “green room.” It’s usually filled with chairs and a table, some water and coffee, and a TV that’s playing their channel.
This is the place where the guests mingle before going on set. It’s kind of like a doctor’s waiting room, but with more excitement and anticipation. While I waited in a green room at Channel 10 in Sacramento, I met several wonderful people. We talked about our passions and the reasons we were going on the show. One guest was late, but his P.R. person was there pacing back and forth, calling him, and promising the network people that he’d be there on time. He was the mystery man. As his P.R. person got more and more nervous, she began describing him in reverent tones. I knew immediately I had to meet this man. Be first to comment this article |
