It's a few days after Thanksgiving weekend, and I'm happy to report that I am the same size as when the holiday started! Now, that may not sound like good news; after all, I'm trying to lose weight.
But let me tell you something: I'm an optimist, but I'm also a realist. Expecting to lose weight during the week of Thanksgiving would most likely be setting myself up for failure, which I am very much against, for obvious reasons. There are lots of people who stuck to a few slices of turkey and lots of vegetables for their Thanksgiving meal, but I can assure you that I wasn't one of them. Comments (6) |

I freely admit that I’m an emotional eater. In fact, that’s probably my biggest obstacle on the path to maintaining a healthy weight. Anxiety, sadness, and other negative emotions can bring on the urge to grab something tasty and soothing. And why is it that emotional eating involves rich, fattening “comfort foods?” I’ve never been upset or depressed and felt a seemingly uncontrollable urge to gorge on fistfuls of carrot sticks or a gallon of cottage cheese. Nope, my emotional eating menu features Ben & Jerry’s, chocolate, salty potato chips, or sugary desserts. Comments (6) |

As we put away the costumes and try to resist the leftover candy, there is a way to make Halloween cheer last a little longer… How about cooking with the leftover pumpkins? Instead of tossing out the pumpkins that were used for decorating the front lawn, you can make some delicious dishes using the colorful gourds. Pumpkin flesh is high in cartenoids, which can help protect the body from free radicals, and lutein, which can prevent the formation of cataracts. For a hearty main dish, whip up some Pumpkin Risotto, and to tame your sweet tooth, snack on Candied Pumpkin. Comments (1) |
