A Change of Pace
Page 2

When I woke up today the sun was shining, a breeze was blowing, and the thought of spending an hour at the gym did NOT entice me. Not even a little bit. So Dan (my hubby) and I opted for one of our “marathon walks” in New York City.

We are lucky enough to live right outside of the city, so getting there is no big deal at all. We headed down to the train station and within ten minutes, we were in The Big Apple. We spent the afternoon strolling past cafes, parks, street fairs, and shops. We smiled at babies, petted some dogs, listened to street performers, and enjoyed the overall energy of a city in motion. When all was said and done, we’d logged about 7 miles.

Sure I could have gone to the gym instead and sweated my way through a class or two. Maybe even burned more calories and worked additional parts of my body. But today, that just didn’t feel like the thing to do. A whole city lay before me and I wanted to be a part of it. So I “played hooky” from the gym and went on a 7-mile trek with my husband. Because let’s face it. Sometimes you just need a little change of pace.

Good for you for doing something different, but still getting some serious exercise!

Working out at a gym is especially hard in the summer. Good for you for finding a great balance.

Wish I lived near a big city. That's great you take advantage of it.
