Page 1 of 2 It’s been almost one week since I started moving toward a healthier lifestyle, and things are going pretty well so far. Adding exercise into my daily schedule has proven to be fairly effortless; I’ve taken several post-dinner walks around the neighborhood, and the 30 minutes have flown by. I tend to be a late-night eater, and walking in the early evening has the added benefit of dulling my appetite, so it’s much easier to avoid sugary temptations before bedtime. As far as eating a healthier diet, well, that’s proving to be a challenge. I’ve decided to start writing down what I eat each day, and I have a feeling that I’m going to be surprised by what I’m mindlessly popping into my mouth! A Fig Newton here, a Hershey’s Kiss there – it all adds up.
Chill pill I love fish, especially salmon, but I don’t eat it as often as I should, so I started taking fish oil concentrate supplements several months ago in order increase my intake of heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids. I wasn’t good at taking them on a regular basis, though. The reason? I guess there’s no way to put this delicately: The supplements, which are in softgel form, caused really fishy-tasting burps within 30 minutes of taking them. Ugh – not a pleasant taste! I mentioned this to my doctor during my annual physical a few weeks ago, and she suggested that I freeze the softgels, which helps the fish oil to start moving through the digestive process before it thaws. I'm happy to say that freezing seems to have done the trick, and the fishy burps are a thing of the past.
