Mindful Eating
Page 2

Are you mindful when you eat? In other words, do you pay attention to what you are eating, savoring the flavors and textures and enjoying your meal? Or do you rush through eating without paying much attention at all? Do you try to do other things while you eat such as drive or work at your desk or do you simply eat on the run, getting bites here and there?

Whether you eat mindfully or mindlessly may affect your waistline and your overall health.

Mindful eating means focusing on what you are eating and drinking. You savor each bite and fully enjoy the flavor of the foods and beverages. You chew foods slowly. You allow your mind to think about the source of the food and pause to be thankful for the food.

Benefits of mindful eating include an improved attitude and appreciation for food. Also, mindful eaters learn how to eat slowly, feel their fullness and are satisfied with fewer calories. This helps prevent overeating and weight gain and may help to promote weight loss.

The next time you eat, take time to savor the flavors and eat mindfully for better health.

Very good points, Theresa -- its so easy to just gobble food without thinking about or even really tasting it.

I truly see this as critical nutritional therapy now and in the future. Slowing down is doing wonders for this country. Thanks Theresa!

I can totally relate to this and am now trying to make a real effort to focus on every bite.

Mindful Eating
I totally agree that it is important to be intentional about what we are putting into our mouths. If we eat \"on purpose\", we are less likely to overeat.

I also think that sitting down to a meal together as a family is an important ingredient in growing close and connected to one another. Life is so busy, even if we don\'t spend much time together, we can get together at the dinner table and have a sense of unity as we \"eat on purpose\" together!
