Having a very dear aunt and uncle in Florida, I’ve learned how distance adds a new challenge to maintaining a close relationship. It takes time and creativity to learn how to give and receive a hug over the phone.”    René  C.

Missing our family members who live a distance away may be no fun, but what happens to those relatives who truly need support? It is estimated that almost 7 million families share the fact that they are separated from their loved ones by many miles, yet they are still closely involved in offering much needed care.

Whether you are a car ride to a nearby town or need to board an airplane, Long Distance Caregiving requires planning, guidance and resources. Fortunately there is help. That’s what  FOLO’s new column, Long Distance Caregiving, is about. . . Hopefully, FOLO can assist you in finding the help and resources that will work for you…..

There are many avenues to explore. One to which I would like to draw your attention is an organization called Caring From A Distance (CFAD). CFAD is a non-profit organization created by men and women who personally struggled with the anguish, stress, and frustration of long-distance care.
