Page 1 of 2 I am enjoying my breakfast when someone makes the comment to me, "I thought you were watching what you eat?" My response back was, "I am being good -- it is a bran muffin!" The person replies (as they shake their head and roll their eyes), “If you say so." This stuck with me all day, so I had to do some research!
Yes, bran muffins taste great and are a healthy source of fiber, but are these "healthy snacks" secretly adding unhealthy pounds? Most store-bought bran muffins actually contain very little, if any, bran. What they DO contain is tons of sugar, processed flour, and fat! Did I mention the number of calories in one of these? Do you know that a 5-ounce "commercial" muffin can contain up to 500 calories? This promotes weight gain! Do you ever wonder why you exercise and "eat right", but still gain weight? Unless the nutritional information for food is available to you, make no assumptions! Stay away!
