A Doggone Good Idea
Page 2

The other day, a girl at my Weight Watchers meeting chimed that one of the best things she ever did for her fitness routine was get a dog. (This is OF COURSE not to say that owning a dog isn’t a wonderful experience in and of itself, and I’m counting down the days until my husband Dan and I can get one.) This jovial brunette explained that a dog doesn’t care if it’s raining, snowing, sleeting, hailing, freezing, or just oppressively hot outside. When he’s gotta go…he’s GOTTA GO.

But once you get your four-legged friend out the door, it may take ten, twenty – or more – minutes of you walking him before he decides he’s ready to do his thing. Repeat this activity multiple times a day, and you’re talking serious steps being logged. The thing is, when you’ve got a furry little guy panting and smiling (some dogs really do smile. I swear!) and those big brown eyes starting straight at you, weather just can’t be an issue. And before you know it, you’ve just gone on another walk – burning calories and really toning those legs of yours.

I already think that dogs are one of the best creatures on earth, filled with unconditional love. And now they can play a significant role in keeping you fit? Imagine that! Plus, as studies continue to show that dogs may help to lower blood pressure and even reduce the symptoms of depression, I can’t help but think they are that much more amazing.

Millions of dogs need happy homes. If you are interested in adopting a dog (or any type of pet for that matter!), check out these sites. Who knows? You may need him as much as he needs you.

Dogs definately keep you active. My house is like a three ring circus with my dogs. You see, I have a Sheltie, a Lab/Husky mix and an English Bulldog. Just try to watch a movie in my house once these guys are all together, not happening. And it's always a race to the door when the bell rings. I have to say any type of animal will keep you going.

Great thoughts, Jodi - and good of you to include the websites for these organizations. A great way to help yourself and help a loving animal at the same time. Great advice!
