If Weekends Didn't Exist
Page 2

If weekends didn’t exist, I would be so lean and in fantastic shape! Unfortunately, they do. Why is it what we consider the “best days of the week” are the worst for us in regards to health? Barbecues have been popping up every weekend this year! I love them so much, yet I hate them so much!

And do you know what the worst time of year is for me?

All year long!

End of summer brings an end to the BBQ, but the start of football season brings pizza and beer. All I will do over the next few months is create an imprint of myself in the sofa. From there come the holidays. We all know what that means!

This past weekend I went to a tailgate party; it is football season after all! How can I justify the 10 pounds I feel like I gained? Why does the food have to be so good, and why does there always have to be so much of it?

Is there even such a thing as a “healthy” tailgate party?

BBQ, Tailgates, and football season...th
You can definitely have a "healthy" tailgate party, it's just going to take a little more preparation instead of grabbing a bucket of chicken or opting for the potato chips and beer.
Backyard BBQs and tailgating can have some healthy options too... grilled meats are better than the grease soaked burgers from a fast food place. You can try turkey burgers or veggie burgers. You can try chicken, kabobs, shrimp (all so yummy on a grill). If you guys are all red meat eaters, just remember that you do everything in moderation. Opting for the sausage, red meat, etc means you have to cut corners else where.
Try getting as many uncooked veggie options as possible (potato salad doesn't count). You can go low-fat on the dressings or try hummus. There are alternatives to regular potato chips and, when it comes to beer, well, i'm sure you know what to do...
Totally not trying to rain on the "manliness" that is tailgating; however, as this girl knows, trying to be healthier doesn't have to mean you have to give up those fun experiences of Backyard BBQ, Tailgates, and the beloved football season! ;)

Just enjoy your life, the only advice I can give is that you should take care of the portions. Sometimes is good to enjoy the flavor of a potato chip just do not eat the whole bag :grin

RE: BBQ season: Just don't eat the carbs, man. I don't know what to tell you RE: pizza and beer season other than get out there and run beforehand :)

BBq, Tailgates, and football season
"Healthy Tailgate Parties" Yes they is such a thing as one, but defiantly hard to do. Maybe start off slow and try to bring some healthy foods into the mix. Also try drinking light beer instead of regular. :)

I know for a fact that you can have a veggie tail gate party. A couple of Green peppers, and corn. That's healthy, however there are cows being slaughter for meat eaters like me, so why waste the poor cow. All jokes aside, we need to start eating in portion, and stop eating so much.

Enjoy the day, enjoy your weekends.
Work on healthy eating during the week and portion control at the weekend events. Nothing worse than denying yourself all the time.

i had this problem once
Well, what I do when I have to go to a work party, potluck, bbq, wedding, restaurant with friends or inlaws, etc, etc, is if I am leaving from home, I make sure I am stuffed with good food, more stuffed than normal. I don't get hungry for hours. When I see food at these gatherings, it still smells good, and it looks good, but I am able to just give it a little taste and throw it away. I hardly ever see anything worth eating at such gatherings. There is so much junk food everywhere these days.
