Guess what I’ve had for breakfast every day this week? Juice! I’m not talking Mott’s or Nantucket Nectars or any of the other bottled stuff. I’m talking fresh squeezed juice—straight from the juicer to my mouth. There’s this lovely health food store in my town that serves up fresh squeezed juices from a variety of fruits and vegetables, and I’ve had the greatest time experimenting with different kinds.
Monday it was carrot, beet, and cucumber. Delicious. Tuesday brought the same combo. Again, delectable. Yesterday, I dared to go green when I tried spinach along with carrot and apple. I was a big hesitant to take my first sip, but was I ever surprised?! The apple flavor beautifully offset the taste of the spinach, and boy did it taste good! This morning, I was convinced that apples were the way to go, so I combined them with spinach and beets. I can’t put my finger on it, but something was just off. The apples were a bit too sour, and the spinach tasted a bit too spinachy.
But despite the fact that today’s juice combo didn’t work for me, I will not be soured (no pun intended!) All week long, I’ve had incredible energy and I really feel as if my body is saying “thank you!” It feels so wonderful to start the day off with such a large dose of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. There are no added sugars or preservatives—and nothing is taken away either. One moment I’m looking at fresh fruits and vegetables, and the next moment, they are being squeezed into a cup and served up for me to enjoy.
Buying these juices day after day can certainly get expensive, so I’m going to look into the possibility of buying a juicer. But in the meantime, I will continue to enjoy my morning regimen of walking a mile downtown, ordering a juice from the delightful man behind the counter, and boarding the train to a job I love.
