Bees in the Mint
Page 2

This summer, my favorite chocolate mint grew beautifully and I was planning to try this great new melon and mint sauce recipe I found on Nubella.com. It was a gorgeous gardening Saturday morning and I was harvesting the last of my cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, and onions. I moved on to cleaning up my herb bed, pulling out the last of my basil and was on the final cleanup at my bounty of chocolate mint when I felt the most awful piercing pain on the top of my left hand.

To my dismay, I had disturbed a nest of yellow jackets and the bees weren’t happy. One decided I was an enemy and five stings later, I screamed bloody murder and ran for my life. My family came to my rescue with after-bite ointment and tender loving care, but they did think I’d overreacted a bit.

Well, that was it for my garden and me, at least for that day. The chocolate mint harvesting will have to be done another time. Meanwhile, I’ve included the recipe I was planning to make and would love to hear about any of your favorite mint recipes too.

Melon in Mint Sauce

Combine the following in a small bowl and mix well:

1 cup lowfat sour cream
2 Tablespoons of sugar
2 Tablespoons mint, minced
¼ teaspoon cardamom

Add to 1 cup each of cubed cantaloupe, honeydew, and watermelon, then toss lightly and chill for several hours before serving.

What about crying like a baby when those bees were chasing you across the backyard? I thought you saw a snake make a mean face at you, you were really movin' girl!
