Page 1 of 3 I came to the field of medical advocacy through my experiences as: the mother of a child with many overlapping, highly complicated medical diagnoses. the daughter of one parent with a spinal cord injury. and another parent with early and rapidly progressing Alzheimer’s disease.
Defeated by the Medical System
I had participated in parent support for families of babies in Neonatal Intensive Care and had been a volunteer emergency medical responder for six years. In short, I had heard far too many stories of families experiencing disasters and defeat within the medical “system.” It became clear to me that the more a family needs effective healthcare for complex situations, the more horrific the process becomes for them. . . Closing the GapsIn part, this is because there never was, in fact, any actual “system” designed to provide healthcare. It is a vast array of well-intentioned providers and participants (and even many payors), waking each day, getting on their ponies, and trying to ride their hardest – to do their best – more or less independently of one another. It took me many years to realize that there seemed to be no one – anywhere – who could: do in-depth, personalized medical research; arrange conferences between doctors; communicate necessary details of every recent medical appt. accurately to each doctor; interview and select experts who would ultimately make life-and-death & quality of life decisions; and make sure that each doctor and practitioner was aware of what the others were doing!
Mother of InventionI guess it's true what they say about necessity being the mother of invention, because it was my son's confounding medical diagnoses and the challenges from my parents' diseases and early deaths that led me to birth a medical advocacy service for other families in need. LynxCare's mission is to create better medical information and improved communication between families and doctors. At its essence, Lynx is intended to give families the knowledge they need to access the very best our healthcare system has to offer. Heartfelt GoalMy goal has always been that, if my young son were to become unable to walk, or if his illness progressed to a life of misery, I want him to be able to look me in the eye and know that I had done EVERYTHING I POSSIBLY COULD FOR HIM. LynxCare is my way of helping other mothers and families have this same sense of comfort, whether they are caring for their children, their parents, spouses, friends, family, or themselves. It is simply what I am meant to do. Best, Sharon P.S. Learn more about how medical advocacy services can help your family at LynxCare..Jackie, Jeff & Friends
