This week the weather has turned chilly in mountain Maryland. It’s time for relaxing by a crackling fire and sipping soothing hot tea. My favorite right now is Stash’s chai green tea. But with so many choices on my grocery store’s shelves, it’s fun to try new varieties.
The benefits of tea are no secret. Tea has ridden a wave of positive reports for years now. So, let’s drink up. And did you know:
• Tea naturally contains no calories. • Tea contains about half of the amount of caffeine as coffee. One cup contains about 50 milligrams of caffeine. • Green and black teas are from the same plant and contain similar amounts of beneficial antioxidants and caffeine. And a recent study reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that elderly women who drank tea had higher bone density in their hips compared with non-tea drinkers. So as we move into the cooler, then colder days ahead, consider adding tea to your shopping cart and to your daily routine as a healthy way to warm up on a cold day or night. Do you have a favorite?
