ImageThings I want for Christmas:

1. A PSA of 0 for my six-month cancer checkup, which occurs in December. I’ve been cancer free for five Christmases! Let’s make it another one!

2. Peace, faith, courage, and hope for Bill, the former client whose prostate cancer has spread to his bones. He is undergoing chemo at the world-renown M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Ditto for men in his same shoes.

3. Peace, faith, courage, and hope for Bill’s wife and their two precious little girls. Ditto for families who are in the same position with their men.

4. Peace, faith, courage, and hope for any man just diagnosed with prostate cancer. May he remember, “If a wuss like this blogger can handle it, so can I.”

5. More men putting their machismo aside and getting to their doctors for yearly prostate exams.

6. More men who put their machismo aside and let a male doctor—or a female doctor, for that matter—insert a gloved, lubricated finger where the light don’t shine to feel for prostate abnormalities.

7. Advancements in medicine to take the controversy out of the PSA blood test. In other words, a more reliable way to predict the chances a man has prostate cancer so he doesn't have to endure as many painful biopsies.

8. Greater PR for research funds for prostate cancer, similar to the PR for breast cancer.

9. More advances in prostate-cancer surgery to reduce even more the chances of incontinence and impotency, two major side effects of the procedure. Don’t get in a dither, men, you aren’t totally incontinent or impotent, and those side effects improve over time . . . which brings me to the Number 10 thing I want for Christmas:
