The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have released a list of the 54 worst performing nursing homes in the United States. These nursing homes have had a history of serious quality or safety problems.

These nursing homes have been included in CMS’ Special Focus Facility program to stimulate improvements in their quality of care. The program includes more frequent inspections and monitoring....

Please review this SFF list so that you may be well-informed as you consider future long term care options for your loved ones or if your loved one is a current nursing home resident. 

You can always ask a specific nursing home in your area to show you their survey history. It will indicate any deficiencies they received and their plan of correction for improvement.

It is horrifying to think that the people and organizations we entrust to take care of our most cherished friends and relatives could be so dangerous.    This is just another reminder that we all need to be well informed and take all precautions when researching long term care options for those in our life.
