Page 1 of 2 "Is that BABY FOOD? Are you eating BABY FOOD?" one of my favorite co-workers, Bill, sputtered to me late yesterday afternoon. "You bet,"I proudly announced, to which he replied, "Why???"
Well Bill, I'll tell you why. Baby food is pure. Apart from some of the puddings and other dessert varieties, what you see is what you get with baby food. A jar of bananas contains...ready?...bananas! No sugar. No salt. No high fructose corn syrup. And take the applesauce, for example. I’ll admit it, this one has an additive. Know what it is? Vitamin C. The immune-boosting, free-radical fighting antioxidant. Not too shabby, huh? Ok, so there’s a limit. I don’t have any plans to replace my regular meals with heaping servings of strained peas. But I will keep loading up on jars of peaches, pears, apples, blueberries, and sweet potatoes (Mmm, you HAVE to try the sweet potatoes.) Meanwhile, I’ll continue to get sweet smiles as I peruse the baby aisle in the supermarket, surrounded by new moms who assume I’m stocking up for my little one at home. And I’ll just smile back, unless I’m tempted to reveal my secret. I have a feeling that wont go over very well, though. So, I’ll just keep my secret to myself…and all of you.
