Exercise videos and DVDs: Are they worth their weight in gold, or do we buy they with high hopes, only to see them end up as dust-catchers on a shelf?

Recently, I've started working out again with my trusty Pilates video: Stott Pilates 22-Minute Mat Workout. This particular title is from 2001, and I'm not sure if it's even available anymore, but the Stott Pilates line is still around. I really enjoy this particular video because it's truly a beginners workout; even with my out-of-shape arms, legs, and core, I can still perform the marjority of the excercises.

And the results are noticable after a few weeks, at least to me. My stomach muscles feel tighter, my upper arms are firmer, and my legs have a sleeker look. I don't look runway-ready, but I'm happy to report that I look better than I did a few weeks ago.

How about you? Have you had good results with an exercise video, or do you prefer working out in a gym or health club?

I used to love doing kickboxing videos, and I did them pretty regularly. But since I've moved to a smaller apartment, I prefer taking classes. The amount of space you have makes a big difference!

Congrats on the 'tightening' Mary!! I'm an avid runner/gym rat, so I'm generally not that enthusiastic about fitness dvd's, but the ones I've tried and always liked were the pilates and yoga ones. Funny how I could run 7 miles without breaking a sweat, but 15 minutes of pilates has me huffing and puffing! Come to think of it...I think I need to pull those off of my shelf again...:)
