I’m a Lifetime TV addict, mainly for the sometimes-cheesy movies. Seriously, who can resist a title like “Mother, May I Sleep with Danger?” or “She Woke Up Pregnant,” complete with famed TV actresses such as Alexandra Paul (Baywatch), Tori Spelling (Beverly Hills 90210), or Jaclyn Smith (Charlie’s Angels)? They’re guilty pleasures waiting for you with the flick of a remote. Recently, Lifetime rolled out a new series called Do You Look Good Naked?, featuring Queer Eye for the Straight Guy’s Carson Kressley. The premise of the show is to get women to love their less-than-perfect bodies. According to the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), 80 percent of women express dissatisfaction with their appearance, so potential guests shouldn’t be difficult to find.
So here’s the age-old question: Why are women so unhappy with their weight or their appearance in general? The most common explanation is that women are constantly barraged with advertisements and magazine covers featuring extremely thin models, with incredibly large breasts and small hips. But I think that’s only part of the answer. Ladies, what about you? Are you dissatisfied with you body or your appearance? If so, why? And on the flip side, are you happy with the way you look, and if you are, please let us know how you got that way!
