My gym is staffed with certified fitness experts who follow the trends in their field. When I worked with my trainer last year, a good part of our work always included exercises involving standing on one leg, standing on an unstable surface or narrowing my range of motion to achieve ideal form.
Besides free weights, we used balls, bands, and plenty of my own body weight.
Since weight training can often be dull enough to make you lose your motivation, these new toys and tricks worked wonders to keep me engaged. But they did something else, too.
After running regularly for seven or eight years, I've been developing mild lower back pain after long runs, and moderate pain in one knee after every run. After a few months of planned strength training, I felt much less pain.

Balance In Eating As Well As In Exercise
Functional fitness involves teaching your body to balance its own weight and teaching all the muscles to work together rather than isolating them to work independently. It involves understanding how the body functions as a whole.
This understanding also is the key with nutrition. It's important to view the body as a whole. While you should eat foods you enjoy, you should also make choices that will aid your whole body, especially digestion and absorption of nutrients.

Core strength
When fitness experts talk about strengthening your core or trunk, they're referring to a group of muscles that includes your abdominals and your pelvic and back muscles.
Your core is the center of gravity and essential for functional fitness. Improved core strength helps keep your body aligned during other fitness activities like running and dancing, as well as when you sit at your desk or haul groceries.
Many exercises to improve core strength require no equipment other than a mat and your body weight, and incorporate movements from martial arts and yoga.

Mustard
This condiment adds big flavor to sandwiches, salad dressings, and vegetable and meat dishes—without adding many calories. Both mustard greens and mustard seeds have pungent characteristics derived from their protective chemical defense system.
Mustard condiments are thought to go back to the Middle Ages, and prepared mustard as we know it is believed to have been developed by the Romans. Prepared mustard is made with whole or powdered mustard seeds combined with an acidic liquid like wine or vinegar.
Cooking mustard will diminish its spicy qualities, so use it in uncooked preparations or add it towards the end of food preparation.
